Here is our recommended list of what you will need to enter the world of cloth, including diaper amounts to last about two days between washings.
Newborn: 30-36 diapers
Baby 3mo-1year: 24 diapers
Toddler 1-2 yeas: 18 diapers
Older Toddler 2-3 years: 12 diapers
Nightime Only: 3-6 diapers {Don't quite know if cloth is for you? Want to be a part of it but just can't seem to make it work in your mind? Why not go cloth at nighttime? By doing this you will be saving hundreds of diapers a year from ending up in landfills. Saving money for yourself. And for those who are very concerned about the poo factor, most likely you won't be dealing with poopy diaps through the night. {This of course differs baby to baby}So this is perfect for you! For these we simply recommend 3-6 diapers depending on how often you want to wash and if your baby has nighttime changes.}
For all ages:
• If you plan to cloth wipe: As many wipes as you have diapers plus a dozen
• Wipe Solution {Can be made at home as simple as mixing a small amount of your babies current soap with water}
• A diaper sprayer {this takes the yuck factor out of hand rinsing}
• A small wetbag for your diaper bag
• An extra large wetbag for at home {alternatively you could use a kitchen size trash can with a pail liner}
• Cloth safe rash cream
• Cloth safe detergent {We recommend Bee Clean by Redemption Soap}
Prepping Your New Diapers
• Prep of diapers is an important step. New diapers need to be “prepped” before you use them. This will prepare fibers for proper absorption. Prep varies depending on the material they are made from.
• NATURAL FIBERS SHOULD BE PREPPED ONLY WITH OTHER NATURAL FIBERS! Do not prep microfiber with natural fibers. The oils and waxes released from natural fibers will coat microfiber causing it to repel rather than absorb. Once all items have been prepped, they can be washed together.
• For microfiber inserts and Bee Changed Microsuede Diapers- simply wash once with a small amount of approved detergent in hot cycle and tumble or hang to dry.
• For Bee Changed Bamboo Diapers and Bitty Bee Changed Diapers– wash diapers in hot cycle 4 times prior to first use. Use a small amount of approved detergent in first and second wash. Third and forth washes do not require detergent. Tumble or hang to dry{Remember because bamboo is a natural fiber drying time will be longer than synthetic fibers. Trust us when we say the luxury of bamboo is worth the wait}Bamboo fibers work in such a way that diaper absorbency will actually increase with each wash until they’ve had approximately 10 washes.
• For hemp/organic cotton inserts- wash these inserts in two full hot wash cycles with approved detergent and dry on hot. Repeat with two more full hot wash cycles with approved detergent and dry on hot again. Absorbency will increase with each wash until they’ve had approximately 10 washes. Tumble or hang dry.
Getting a good fit
• Each of our diapers contain high quality elastic which fits snug against babies waist and legs without being too tight. Because Bee Changed Diapers have front elastic the technique for putting the diaper on will be slightly different than that of most pocket diapers. After adjusting the rise snap to the proper size, adjust top waist snap to the tightest setting comfortable for baby {Be sure to stretch the front elastic to get the tightness needed to block leaks} Move to the snap below to choose the best setting for a custom fit around babies legs! The top and bottom snap do not need to be vertically alligned. Once you have adjusted the snaps to fit your baby, check diaper fit by sliding your finger in leg opening. Diaper should be snug enough to contain messes but not tight enough to leave very red marks on babies sensitive skin. If leaks occur check and adjust fit.
